This old home place was abandoned in the late 1970’s when the elderly man (surname Money) who lived here became unable to take care of himself and was forced into a nursing home. Having never married, with no children, the property was auctioned off.
What remains is not as much as was once present. A number of small farm building show up on the earliest aerial photos. In the woods surrounding the farm there are the remains of well used buggy tracks, a partial stone dam, and a natural spring which has been lined with stone.
Despite being in use in the 1960’s and 70’s, the home never had running water, electricity, or a phone line.
Through genealogical research I’ve determined that the man’s father must have been the first to work the land, and likely moved into the area from Wilkes county sometime in the 1920’s or 1930’s.
As of 2020, the barn has collapsed and been removed, and thieves have stripped the house of much of it’s internal wood. The bedroom wall has also started pulling loose from the rest of the house due to water damage. The house will likely fall over in the next couple years.
