Welcome your Charlotte Hornets!

I have something fun for you today I turned up digging through old shoeboxes.
I think everyone remembers how much hype there was when Charlotte finally got it’s own basketball team. By 1992 it was probably at a fever pitch, especially after the Hornets picked up Alonzo Mourning and Tony Bennet at numbers 1 and 2 in the NBA draft.
That season Burger King partnered with the TV station WJZY to issue these neat little cards/standups of the team. They came three to an envelope and were available at Burger King restaurants exclusively in 4 different sets.
My great grandmother, being the saint she was knew I wanted them and did her best to get them all, but missed out on the last one with Larry Johnson, Sidney Green, and Kevin Lynch.
I still have all the ones she did manage to get for me though, just not the envelopes. I only have one of those left- the one everyone wanted with Alonzo Mourning.
These aren’t really worth very much as a collector’s item, but I think they’re neat. They’re the kind of local promotional item you don’t see anymore.

Anyway, here’s a blast from the past, just not as far in the past as I usually focus on.
